Accra’s biggest shopping mall ready by 2014

The massive West Hills Mall in west Accra is due for completion in October 2014, according to the South African property investment and development company Atterbury which began developing the  $96 million-project in December 2012.

When finished, West Hills will be the largest shopping centre in Accra. It is situated on the Cape Coast motorway in the west of the city, about a half-hour drive from the central business district. The area is described by Atterbury as a "rapidly developing middle-class residential node in a city with a growing population of over three million people."

Atterbury is developing the 30,000-sqm mall in conjunction with the Social Security National Insurance Trust of Ghana (SSNIT) and local Ghanaian developer Nasec. The mall’s anchor tenant will be South African retailer Shoprite, along with other South African retailers Woolworths, Mr Price and Truworths.

In addition to West Hills, Atterbury is considering developing similar projects in Mozambique, Angola, Zambia and Namibia.
