The 33rd annual congress of the African Travel Association (ATA) will take place in Arusha from 19-23 May 2008. Over 500 representatives of the tourism and business communities will explore ways to develop the tourist and travel sectors in Africa and individual ATA member states. There will be an exhibition of handicrafts and travel products running alongside the congress.

Tourism is one of the main foreign exchange earners in Tanzania, accounting for revenue worth US$862 million in 2006. The state-run Tanzania Tourist Board plans to launch a major marketing campaign in the main source markets in Europe and North America in an attempt to raise annual visitor numbers from the present 600,000 to one million by the end of this year.
