Registration is now open for the fourth edition of the pan-African local authorities conference, which will take place in Nairobi 18-22 September. This year Africities has the theme Building local coalitions for implementation of millennium development goals in African local authorities and an estimated 10,000 delegates representing local governments, national, regional and continental organisations, civil society and the business community will come together to explore progress at local level in achieving some of the United Nations-established targets for 2015: free primary education, gender equality, poverty eradication, the reduction of infant mortality, environmental conservation and the fight against HIV/AIDS. Past editions of the conference have been held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast (1998), Windhoek, Namibia (2000), and Yound, Cameroon (2003). For information see the Africities website www.africities2006nairobi.org.
