Amazon to open customer service centre in Cape Town
United States on-line retail giant Amazon has announced that it is to open a customer services centre in Cape Town later this year, five years after establishing a software development centre in the Mother City in 2005.
The centre is due to open in October and will provide services in English and German. It is expected to create over 600 permanent jobs during the first two years of operation plus 400 seasonal jobs in the run-up to the Christmas holiday season.
Good telecommunications and other infrastructure, a rich skills base and relatively low labour costs have increasingly made Cape Town the location of choice by multinational companies for call centres and other outsourced business services.
