The American University of Cairo (AUC) cannot prevent women from wearing the niqab, or full face covering, an Egyptian court has ruled. The prestigious US-accredited university had previously said women must not wear the niqab for security reasons.

On 9 June the high administrative court upheld an earlier court ruling that Iman al-Zainy should be allowed to wear the Islamic veil on campus as a matter of personal and religious freedom.
