Capetonians and tourists can now use a handy map detailing local fashion retailers, manufacturers and designers. Produced by the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) for the recent fashion festival in Cape Town, the fold-out guide aims to boost the local fashion industry by only including outlets that deal in South African merchandise. It features 50 retail outlets selling locally produced womens and mens clothing, childrens wear, accessories, leather goods and shoes; 30 so-called factory shops (retail outlets attached to a manufacturer); over 30 local designers; dressmakers and tailors. The map is available at hotels, guesthouses and at the airport and is the first guide of its kind in the country.
