The department of local government and housing of the Western Cape has launched a campaign to inform people of their rights and responsibilities when renting property. The organizers will use a mixture of targeted advertising, pamphlets, poster campaigns and road shows to ensure that both tenants and landlords are aware of the rights set out in the 1999 Rental Housing Act over and above the terms of their specific rental contract.
