Cape Town opens clinic for prostitutes

Clinic to provide health care exclusively for Cape Town sex workers.

Cape Town has opened a clinic offering healthcare‚ counselling and legal services exclusively for the city's sex workers.

Cym van Dyke Clinic is the first of its kind in South Africa and is located at the offices of the Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT) in the city's Observatory suburb.

The facility will offer testing services and treatment for a range of sexually-transmitted diseases as well as antenatal care, with the medical staff funded by the Aids Health Foundation (AFH) and the medicine supplied by government agencies.

The facility is the result of collaboration between SWEAT and AFH and will be open daily from midday until 20.00.
