Cape Town to host global air transport summit

Cape Town will host the World Air Transport Summit (WATS) from 2-4 June 2013 at the city's International Convention Centre.

The annual event draws all the major players from the global air transport sector.

Cape Town was chosen as the location for the summit by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) which will also hold its 69th Annual General Meeting there.

South African Airways (SAA) will be the conference’s host airline. The announcement follows the recent decision by SAA to cease its direct service from Cape Town to London – rerouting through Johannesburg instead.

This year’s WATS and AGM took place in Beijing from 10-12 June, with the event hosted by Air China. In attendance were some 750 airline industry leaders representing IATA’s 242 member airlines.

The IATA was founded in 1945 in Havana, Cuba and today has members in 126 countries around the world.
