Cape Town voted world’s best city by British tourists

2017 Telegraph Travel Awards see Cape Town retain top spot for fifth year.

British tourists have voted Cape Town the "best city in the world" for the fifth consecutive year, as part of the annual 2017 Telegraph Travel Awards.
The verdict, according to a poll of 90,000 readers, made reference to Cape Town's status as a “coastal gem in the shadow of an iconic mountain”.
Vancouver came second place in the poll, followed by Tokyo, Venice, Sydney, New York, Seville, Florence, San Francisco and Rome in tenth place.
The good news for Cape Town comes despite it having the highest rates of robbery, murder and property-related crime in South Africa, according to the 2017 State of Urban Safety Report. The city has also spent much of this year struggling to deal with a chronic water shortage.
