China to finance Maputo ring road

A ring road around Maputo is to be financed with a €300 million loan from the Export-Import Bank of China (Exim Bank), after an agreement was ratified by Mozambique's council of ministers on 28 February.

The ring road is designed to ease congestion in Maputo, and the Mozambican government hope that construction work can begin during the first half of 2012.

The country's deputy foreign minister Henrique Banze said that the new road will mean that commuters wishing to travel from one side of Maputo to the other will no longer have to access the city centre.
