Former Mozambican president Joaquim Chissano is the winner of the inaugural prize for achievement in African leadership awarded annually by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation to a retired head of state or government. The prize of US$5 million over ten years and US$200,000 annually thereafter for life plus an additional US$200,000 a year for ten years towards his public interest activities
