The 13th edition of Dar es Salaam's Charity Goat Races takes place at midday on 1 June at the Green alongside Kenyatta Drive, to raise funds for local charitable organisations.
The nine charities to benefit are Matumaini Day Care Center for Disabled children; Zanzibar Outreach Program (ZOP); Bibi Jann's Centre; Fahari Zanzibar; Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT); Malaika Kids; AC-AF; Foxes’ Community and Wildlife Conservation Trust; and The Daughters of Mary Immaculate and Collaborators (DMI).
The annual family day out has plenty of facilities for children such as fancy dress, and the numerous raffle prizes include air tickets to Europe, a safari package and a trip to Zanzibar.
Modelled on a similar initiative launched in Uganda in the early 1990s, the Dar es Salaam version of the event began in 2001.
Since then it has raised more than 660m/- for more than 60 local charities and organisations.
Last year the event raised a record 115m/- for 15 organisations, and attracted over 4,000 spectators.
