United States carrier Delta Air Lines is due to launch four weekly flights between Nairobi and New York via Dakar in Senegal starting June 2007. The service, which still requires final approval from the Kenyan, Senegalese and US authorities, will be the only direct service between the US and Kenya. Currently passengers are required to fly via either Europe or the Middle East. Besides the new Kenya route, Delta also plans to launch services between Lagos and Atlanta and between Lagos, Cape Town and Cairo and New York. The airline already operates flights between Accra and New York and between Johannesburg and Atlanta via Dakar.
