Drumming and noise-making have been banned in the Greater Accra region until 7 June. The ban, announced by the traditional council of the indigenous Ga people of the Accra region, came into force on 7 May. It is a prelude to the annual Homowo celebrations, when the Ga thank the gods for the harvest.

During the period of the ban Christian and Muslim religious authorities are asked to limit worship to churches and mosques and avoid placing loudspeakers outside their buildings.

Problems or misunderstanding relating to the noise ban can be reported to a joint task force including the city council, police, the traditional council and religious groups or by calling +233 (0)21 662441 or 233 (0)21 666859.
