Traditional leaders of Ga state have banned drumming and noisemaking in the capital from 4 May to 4 June as part of preparations for the Ga traditional Homowo festival to celebrate the harvest in July and August. During this period the public is invited to respect the ban and honour the traditions of the Ga state (roughly corresponding to the Greater Accra area).

In the past the annual order has led to conflict particularly between practitioners of the ethnic Ga tradition and the charismatic Christian community, which has been known to make a lot of noise during worship. Eventually the sides agreed that noise made by churches should not exceed the level proscribed by law.
