Ethiopia will hold the East African Cross Country Championship on 22 February. At least four athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Egypt, Tanzania, Somalia and Djibouti are expected to take part in the competition, which will be held in the capital Addis Ababa. On the same day the Jan Meda International Cross Country Championship will also take place. Jan Meda is an annual athletics event in Ethiopia involving participants from Ethiopia and neighbouring countries.

The 2009 East African Cross Country Championship was originally due to be held in Kenya, but the venue was changed at the last minute for technical reasons.
