A monument to Eduardo Mondlane, considered by some as the father of independent Mozambique, is to be inaugurated in Maputo on 3 February, the 38th anniversary of his death. Founder and first president of FRELIMO, the independence movement established in 1962 in opposition to the Portuguese colonial government, Mondlane was killed on 3 February 1969 by a parcel bomb sent to the movement
