Ethiopian Airlines had an operating revenue of over nine billion Birr and a net profit of 504 million Birr during the 2007/2008 fiscal year. These figures represent record earnings for the carrier, which is steadily establishing itself as one of the leading airlines on the continent. Passenger numbers over the same period were also up by 20 per cent over the previous fiscal year, totalling 2.5 million in July 2008. Projections for the year 2008/2009 put revenue at between 11 and 12 billion Birr and passenger numbers at 2.9 million.

On 26 October Ethiopian Airlines is to launch a new direct service to Burkina Faso with six weekly flights to the capital Ougadougou. In August the airline received the Corporate Achievement Award from Aviation & Allied Business Publications in recognition of its contribution to the development of the airline industry in Africa.
