Work is due to begin shortly on a long-awaited film studio complex just outside Cape Town. The R460 million project, formally known as Dreamworld, is expected to take 18 months to complete. Located in Faure off the N2 motorway southeast of the city, the complex will have eight sound stages and associated post-production facilities and also be home for a film school.

The Western Cape provincial government has allocated R60 million to the project with the balance funded by a consortium of private investors led by the veteran South African film producer Anant Singh.

Cape Town has long been a choice location for filmmakers due to its pleasant climate and natural beauty and it has become the centre of a small but vibrantfilm industry in recent years. However, development has been impeded by lack of capacity and local expertise. The Dreamworld project hopes to go some way towards filling the gap.
