First Ghana Writers Awards to be presented in Accra

Annual scheme to promote Ghanaian literature.

The prizewinners of the first edition of the Ghana Writers Awards (GWA), an annual awards scheme to promote Ghanaian literature particularly among young peope, are to be announced in Accra on 29 October.

Sixteen finalists have been shortlisted for prizes in two categories: poetry and short stories.

The GWA is a non-profit association and organisers say it was established to nurture unpublished writers and celebrate creative writing in Ghana.

The theme of the 2016 award is “Preserving the Ghanaian culture through creative writing: the role of writers”.
