A new telephone numbering plan came into effect in Ghana on 1 May to bring the country into line with international standards.

Under the new system fixed-line telephone numbers have been standardised to seven digits across the country and a single three-digit regional code has been introduced in each of the ten regions. From now on callers must dial the full subscriber number including the regional code even when they are calling a number within the same region.

The new regional codes are as follows: Greater Accra 030; Western 031; Ashanti 032; Central 033; Eastern 034; Brong Ahafo 035; Volta 036; Northern 037; Upper East 038; Upper West 039. Until the change several different area codes had been in operation in each region.
