The International Criminal Court (ICC) has ruled that four Kenyans are to stand trial on accusations of crimes against humanity, which include murder and persecution, The charges refer to the widespread political violence in the post election period in January 2008 which killed at least 1,200 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless.

Two of the four, Uhuru Kenyatta and Francis Muthaura, are supporters of the president Mwai Kibaki. The other two, William Ruto and Joseph Arap Sang, are followers of the prime minister, Raila Odinga. Accusations against two others have not been confirmed by the court.
