The body of Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai will be cremated at the Kariokor Crematorium and her remains interred at the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies in Nairobi, in a state funeral on 8 October.

The arrangements are in accordance with the wishes of Maathai, the political activist, environmentalist and 2004 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, who died on 25 September at the Nairobi Hospital from ovarian cancer.

There is to be a private prayer service early on 8 October before her casket departs from Lee Funeral Home at 09.00, draped in the Kenyan flag and escorted by members of Kenya
