Ghana set to privatise Accra stadium

Ghana's government considers privatising Accra and Kumasi stadiums.

The government of Ghana is set to privatise two of the country's biggest stadiums, in Accra and in the central city of Kumasi, according to reports by local media.

Ghana's sports ministry is currently seeking investment under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) to manage Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra and the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The move is in response to the ministry's insufficient annual budget to fund the maintenance and renovation works required at the stadiums, both of which are in a poor state of repair.

The ministry has reportedly been considering plans to privatise the stadiums since 2009.
