The Accra-based Asontaba Cultural Group has been invited to perform at the 2006 State Fair of Texas in Dallas from 29 September to 22 October. The 40-member troupe will present a variety of Ghanaian traditional dances including kpanlogo and gome from the Greater Accra region, adowa and kete from the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions, atsiagbekor and agbadza from the Volta region and apatampa, sekyi and kundum from the Central and Western regions. Asontaba Cultural Group is the cultural wing of Asontaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme, a project established in the mid 1990s to promote young talent and create job opportunities for local youth. The group performs widely in Ghana and abroad as well as holding regular seminars on traditional African culture. Asontaba is a word in the language of the Frafra people of Ghanas Upper East region meaning helping one another.
