The government has started moving thousands of containers that are piled up at the port of Dar es Salaam to inland depots as part of efforts to tackle long-running congestion at the docks. Other measures include simplifying the customs clearance procedure, which many pinpoint as the main reason for the backlog, increasing rates for containers left idly at the port and building two more berths for ships.
