Registration is open for the annual Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa, which this year takes place on 9 September to coincide with celebrations for the turn of the Ethiopian millennium on 11-12 September. 30,000 amateur and professional athletes from all over the world will be taking part in the seventh edition of the ten-kilometre road race, which starts in Meskel Square at 09.00. Participants will include marathon world record holder Paul Tergat from Kenya and around 2,000 underprivileged children from Ethiopia, who will be taking part free of charge. Residents of Ethiopia can register at Dembel City Center, the Hilton Hotel, Dashen Bank (Tana) Mercato or Addis Ababa Stadium; registration centres are open from Monday-Saturday 09.30-13.30 and 15.30-18.30 and the cost is 40 Birr per person. Prospective participants from abroad should register with Tony Hickey at Ethiopian Quadrants, email: ethiopianquadrants@ethionet.et. Overseas registration is $20, payable on arrival in Ethiopia.
