Twenty-two mounted police are to take to roads and beaches in Cape Town as part of efforts by the Western Cape province to counter crime in the metropolis over the busy festive and summer season. The initiative has been conceived as a pilot project lasting two months, although if it is successful the provincial police department may consider creating a mounted policing unit on a permanent basis.
