Hospital for disabled children opens in Addis Ababa.
A 23 million birr hospital specialising in paediatric orthopaedics and paediatric plastic reconstruction has opened in the capital Addis Ababa. The 60-bed state-of-the art facility is run by the Ethiopian branch of CURE International, a charity for sick and physically disabled children, and is the first specialist hospital of its kind in the country. In its first year it is expected to perform up to 4,000 surgical operations to treat cleft lip and palate, clubfoot, burn contractures and other disabilities; costs will be covered largely by funding from donors. The facility will also operate as a teaching hospital for surgeons from Ethiopia and other parts of Africa.
Based in the United States, CURE international operates in numerous parts of Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
