Lagos is the fourth most expensive city in Africa and the 37th most expensive city in the world according to the annual cost of living survey conducted by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The most expensive city in Africa is Douala in Cameroon, at 24th place on the international ranking. Other African cities to make it into the top 50 are Dakar (Senegal) in 33rd place, Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in 35th and Algiers (Algeria) at 50th. All have risen in the ranking since last year with the exception of Lagos, which has fallen six places.
