Large-scale shopping mall for Arusha

A large state-of-the-art shopping mall is to be constructed by the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) in central Arusha.

Although the plans are in the final stages, the total cost of the project is not yet known. However in an indication of the project's scale, the head of the LAPF Eliudi Sanga said that the AICC is currently constructing a similar mall in Mwanza near Kirumba at a cost of Tsh 65 billion, but that the Arusha structure is likely to be "much bigger".

The semi-state AICC falls under the remit of the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation, and aside from its conference centre it owns the AICC Hospital along Nelson Mandela Road in Uzunguni and about 650 residential units – some of them block of flats – making it the largest landlord in Arusha.

The courts of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda have been the AICC's biggest tenants over the last 18 years, followed by the East African community. The ICTR is now winding down and the EAC is on the move to its own purpose-built complex in Arusha
