Ridge Hospital in Accra will become nation's largest medical facility.
The newly expanded and upgraded Ridge Hospital in Accra is set to become Ghana's largest hospital when it opens in August, according to the country's health ministry.
The modernised hospital will offer 420 new beds, increasing its capacity from 190 to 610, and will include a maternity ward, 24-hour diagnostic care facilities, and 12 surgical theatres.
The upgraded building, constructed originally in 1928, will cover 43,000 sqm and use solar-powered electricity, cooling systems and rainwater harvesting.
The hospital was designed by Miami firm Perkins+Will and constructed by Americaribe, also from Miami, a division of the French-based firm Bouygues Bâtiment International.
