The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) is to increase its scheduled power cuts from the present two to five days per fortnight in an attempt to mitigate energy shortages particularly in Addis Ababa.

The state company responsible for power generation, transmission, distribution and sales in Ethiopia has also said that it will be extending the length of outages from 14 to 15 hours per day.

The rationing is expected to last until July, although it could be cut back or suspended sooner if water levels in Ethiopia
