Iranian artists Nasser Palangi and his wife Farideh Zariv are painting a mural in Wale Street in the Bo-Kaap district of Cape Town to thank residents for their hospitality during the recent The Hand of Fatima exhibition of multimedia work by Zariv at the Bo-Kaap Museum. The mural is being executed under the citys adopt a plot programme to beautify Cape Town and will be dedicated to local youth. It will be based on photographs illustrating the culture of the Malay and Indonesian slaves who were brought to the Cape by the Dutch East Indian Trading Company and settled in this area in the 17th and 18th centuries and whose descendants still live here today.
