Nairobi embraces e-commerce

Capital turns to e-payments to cut long queues

Nairobi city government will switch to electronic payments by July in an effort to combat long queues at the city hall. Instead of residents queuing at cashiers in city offices, Nairobi City County (NCC) has commissioned local online payment company JamboPay to automate its revenue collection.

The new services are centred around mobile and internet payments which can be paid directly from homes, offices or even mobile phones.

Launched in 2009, JamboPay beat 65 other local and international companies to win the deal with NCC.
