Accra is to get 13 new or improved boreholes in an attempt to mitigate the ongoing water shortages in the capital and surrounding areas. Neighbourhoods set to benefit from the works include Tantra Hill, Dome, Ashongman, Frafraha and Dodowa.

Minister of water resources, works and housing Boniface Abubakar Saddique has said large water containers are to be installed in the Teshie, La, the La Polyclinic, Osu, Cantonments, Ridge and Nungua areas to store water delivered by tanker.

Ghana has long been in the grips of a water shortage due to a combination of poor resource management, work on infrastructure and prolonged drought. Recently the problem has been aggravated by frequent power cuts which have interrupted operations at water treatment facilities and pumping stations.
