The Bank of Ghana has unveiled the new Ghana cedi notes and coins and pesawa coins that are due to come into circulation on 1 July. The notes are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cedis, while the coins are in one, five, 10, 20 and 50 pesewas. There is also a 1 cedi coin.

The new notes and coins are being introduced to reduce the accounting and data management problems caused by the existing currency with its multiple zeros. Under the new system 10,000 existing cedis (
