The ruling Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) coalition is to build a new seven-storey headquarters near its existing premises in Arat Kilo close to the city centre. The building has a projected cost of 40 million birr, to be financed by party members and supporters.

The coalition also plans to build a training centre in Sendafa, 40 km northeast of the capital. The project will include an administration building, a museum, classrooms, lecture theatres and student dormitories as well as special facilities for top party officials.

EPRDF came to power in Ethiopia after toppling the military Derg regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam in 1991. It comprises four parties, the Oromo Peoples
