Egypt seeks tenders for two monorail lines in greater Cairo.
The Egyptian government is accepting proposals from national and international companies interested in constructing two light rail projects in the greater Cairo area.
One of the proposed routes would stretch 35km from 6th of October City to suburban Giza in southwest Cairo, while the other would extend 52km from Nasr City in the eastern part of the capital to New Cairo, Egypt's new administrative capital, currently under construction to the east of Cairo.
First proposed in 2015, the new city is designed to become Egypt's administrative and financial capital, housing the main government departments and ministries, as well as foreign embassies.
The Egyptian government said the proposed monorail lines would be funded through international monetary organisations and state loans. The deadline for the presentation of bids is 15 January.
