A new restaurant has opened at the GoDown arts centre on Dunga Road. The Manna opened to the public on 1 March and serves breakfast, traditional dishes, daily specials and sandwiches.
Located in a former car warehouse in the industrial area south of the city, the GoDown is one of the most active and important cultural spaces in the Kenyan capital.
It offers studio space at subsidised rates to upcoming local artists and provides space and support to cultural organisations working in a variety of fields. These include Media Development in Africa (MEDEVA), which offers training to young people to make local interest TV and radio programmes for broadcast in the East Africa region; Nairobits Trust, a digital design school working with young people living in the local slums; the Kuruka Maisha Trust, an arts school for street children. It also has a programme of regular exhibitions, performances and other cultural events.
