Two new roads are to be built in the Mekanisa area southwest of the city centre, the independent business weekly newspaper Capital reports. The first road, stretching just over four kilometres, will connect the African Union (AU) headquarters with Mekanisa ring road via Pushkin Square, while the other, of the same length, will run between Dese Hotel and Pushkin Square via the Bisrate Gabriel telecommunication office. Construction has been assigned to BERTA, one of the largest private civil engineering and construction firms in Ethiopia. The cost of the project is 160 million birr. Five million birr has also been allocated for the resettlement of residents who will have to leave their homes to make way for the roads.
