Poor people living in Nairobi can take part in what is left of the World Social Forum (WSF) free of charge after the organisers decided to waive the registration fee for Kenyans. The decision follows days of complaints culminating in a protest on 23 January by some delegates and slum dwellers at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, the venue for the event. Organisers had already bowed to earlier protests and lowered the registration fee for Kenyans from Ksh500 to Ksh50. Registration for individual participants is on a sliding scale of Ksh500 to Ksh7,900 depending on the region of origin.

Only around 46,000 people have registered so far
