The Ressano Garcia border post between Mozambique and South Africa is now open 24 hours a day to facilitate the return of migrant workers employed in South Africas mines and the arrival of tourists for the Christmas holidays. The measure, which has been introduced a week earlier than usual, will remain in place until 8 January 2007. Over 2,600 private vehicles are expected to pass through the border post each day over the festive period against the usual 600-800 per day.
