Capetonians can now receive information about train services in the Western Cape on their mobile phones. The SMS service, offered by the regional division of national commuter rail service provider Metrorail, is currently free of charge and could be useful particularly in light of recent strike action by transport workers and ongoing power cuts in the Cape, which have caused disruption to services. There is an on-line registration form on the Metrorail website. For information contact the Metropolitan Transport Information call centre on 0800 656463 or see the website.
