Suggestion boxes at Lagos schools

Suggestion boxes for children to report instances of abuse or harassment by parents, guardians, teachers and others have been introduced in all public secondary schools across Lagos State.

The initiative grants children confidentiality and is designed to encourage victims not to fear reporting abuse.

The scheme is under the aegis of the ministry of education and the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) group, with a steering committee established to assess the contents of the boxes on a regular basis.

Speaking at the launch in Lagos, the state's deputy governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire warned that any teacher who abuses a child would be dealt with severely by the courts.
