Arusha hosts the inaugural Pan-African Conference on Sustainable Tourism Management in National Parks and Protected Areas, from 15 - 18 October.
The five-day event, which has as its theme "Tourism Management in National Parks and Protected Areas: Challenges and Opportunities", is organised by the United Nations World Travel Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with Tanzania's ministry of natural resources and tourism, and will be held at the Arusha International Conference Centre.
Delegates from 50 countries are expected to attend the summit which will promote sustainable park tourism strategies as a core component in the management of Africa's national parks. Tanzania’s 15 national parks mean that 30 per cent of the country is protected.
Arusha will host a similar event – the seventh World Rangers Congress – on 4 November at the Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge in Meru.
