An Ethiopian court has found two Swedish journalists guilty of helping and promoting the banned Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) rebel group, and entering Ethiopia illegally.

On 21 December in Addis Ababa, Judge Shemsu Sirgaga ruled that reporter Martin Schibbye and photographer Johan Persson had entered Ethiopia illegally under the pretext of investigating the impact of potential oil discoveries and production in the region on the local people. The freelance journalists say they were reporting on the ONLF as a news story and deny assisting the rebels
