Anti-riot police in Arusha were called out on 14 October to disperse primary school teachers protesting about the non-payment of their insurance claims. About 50 teachers demonstrated in the central Clock Tower area of the city at the National Insurance Corporation.
The NIC called the police to disperse the teachers who were protesting that their insurance claims have not been paid for several years.
About 200 teachers have outstanding claims totally TzSh100 million and a meeting has now been scheduled for 22 October.
