The government and the federation of road transport associations have revoked the increase in public transport fares in the Maputo area after clashes between police and demonstrators protesting against the hike. On 5 February one person died and dozens were injured when thousands took to the streets of Maputo, laying roadblocks, burning tyres, damaging cars and bringing the city to a standstill.
